Rob
Mudgett
CEO/Lead Programmer
Rob
Mudgett, founder and CEO of Site Genesis started out programming
a TRS-80 micro computer from Radio Shack, circa 1980. He missed
out on the punch cards, but still went through the “save
your programs and data on a cassette tape” phase. He
still remembers when he first saw a hard drive, it was a big
boxy thing and only held 5 MB of data.
Just as computers have evolved, so has Rob. He started programming
using a language called “BASIC” and from there
he has expanded his knowledge to include Pascal, C, C++, Fortran,
Visual Basic, Macromedia Flash Action Script, Java Script,
HTML, PHP, MySQL, ASP and XML. If you have no clue what the
previous sentence means, fear not, Rob also knows English
and will use that when speaking to you.
Although Rob’s forte is using the LAMP (Linux, Apache,
MySQL and PHP) platform for coding websites, he can also be
found on occasion writing ASP or ASP.NET for Windows servers
and even windows applications.
Rob is not just a programmer, either. Fascinated by the internet,
he has gained a good understanding of web servers and administers
the in-house development server and also the main production
server we use for hosting our web presences that we create.
He also knows enough about networking to set up small networks.
Rob moved to California from Florida in late 1999 hoping
to take advantage of the internet boom and found gainful employment
at Verio, the largest web hosting company at that time. Not
liking the cubicle scene and the dot coms turning into dot
bombs, he moved over to Huffman Communications for a 3 year
stint as the senior technology engineer and wrote the code
that is still running several websites today. While at HC,
Rob worked with some fabulous designers and developed a good
eye for design, however he knows better than to do design
work himself.
